Oh.
Student, who happens to be white: Ms. ____, where do you get those Starbucks energy drinks?
Me: Oh, I stop at the gas station on my way to school — the Double Quick.
Student (in a shocked, ingenuous whisper): Ms. ____, that’s where the black people go.
(Silence)
Student: I don’t mean no harm in it. That’s just the way it is. White people go to Exxon.

Hello! I really enjoy your blog. I have a question about a prior post where you said you use “Essay Land” as part of your disciplinary scheme. Can you give me some examples of the topics that you assign students to write about? Thanks!

Thanks! That’s no problem at all. Please see e-mail.

Hi there
I just found out yesterday that I’ve been offered a position in the 2009 Delta Corps. I’m very excited, terrified, bewildered, unsure, etc.
I just read through your entire blog (stalker-ish…maybe?), but I wanted to thank you for all of your stories and insights. I loved reading the letters your students wrote. I am so truly impressed by their writing.
I know you are incredibly busy, but if you have any time at all to e-mail me, I would love to ask you a couple of questions about life in the Delta.
Thanks! Keep it up

You seem to be getting a lot of sort of off-topic comments, and I’m sorry to contribute to them, but I am a TFA staff member (and alumna) and wanted to ask about using a small piece of one of your older posts in our training for next year’s Round Zero.
Thanks!
